Spyware makes people wary online

Fears over spyware have made more than 90% of American net users change their online behaviour, says a study.

The dangers are making people swap browsers, avoid file-sharing programs and some websites says the Pew Internet and American Life Project research.

The well publicised risk of losing personal data, having a browser hijacked or suffering endless pop-up ads is driving the change, said Pew.

Surveys show that more than 80% of PCs are infected with unwanted spyware.

One in 10 UK websites fail to work properly on the opensource Mozilla's Firefox browser browser, a study shows.

Some 100 leading consumer sites were assessed by web-testing firm SciVisum.

Microsoft makes web feeds easier

Microsoft's next version of its browser, Internet Explorer 7, will make it easier for people to keep automatically aware of website updates.

IE7 will have an orange button on the toolbar which will light up when it detects a Really Simple Syndication feed on a site.

Users can click on a "plus" button to subscribe to the site's feed, as they would with a bookmark.
